A Winding Road...

Hello CARSSU family,

Its that time of year again! We are preparing the third volume of the Caribbean Studies Students’ Union journal and we can’t do it without you. Submissions should address some issue or event that is related to the Caribbean or its Diaspora.

The journal will focus on celebrating the works of students through:

Academic papers, e.g. term papers or book/ film reports, etc (Maximum 3000 words)
Creative writing including poetry, short stories, music and short ‘think’ pieces.
Visual arts, i.e drawings, paintings, sculptures and photo stories. (A short description should be included with each piece)
The selected students will have the opportunity to:

Perform their work,
Present a synopsis of their academic paper, or
Have their visual work displayed as a part of an art exhibit at CARSSU’s journal launch.
Last year’s launch was a huge success, thanks to many of you, and was even featured in the Stabroke News, Guyana’s leading newspaper (link below). Your submissions will make this year’s launch the best yet.

Please submit work by February 28, 2013 to journal.carssu@gmail.com
All work submitted should be original and should include a tittle, the individual’s name, institution, contact information and a short profile.

Mission San Luis, Tallahassee. Paintings by Edward Jonas

Railroad Square, Tallahassee. We had loads of fun at this super cute art district. There was a theatre in the railroad station and a really fabulous thrift store! I got a great dress and a pair of owl earrings there. 

McMichael Canadian Art Gallery. I could not, of course, take pictures inside the galleries, but these are the works in the lobby and entrance that struck me the most. Ivan Eyre in particular does spectacular work.

McMichael Canadian Art Gallery. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous and fit into the theme of Canadian landscapes. I would have liked more time to explore the exhibits and look more carefully. I did not study the Group of Seven in school so everything was fresh and exciting to me.
