BECAUSE IT WAS MADE OUT OF FREEDOM AND THE DREAMS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE
uh excuse me wasn’t it adamantium
no it’s vibranium
you mean FREEDOMIUM
Aren’t wolverine’s bones made of adamantium?
No, Wolverine’s bones are made of crystalized maple syrup and universal health care.

With the US economy in a bigger mess than usual, everyone is coming out of the woodwork to give their two cents. An Op-ed in the New York Times by Warren Buffett and letter sent out by Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz are causing quite a stir.
What they are saying is not that interesting. Buffett is saying that the government should tax wealthy Americans more. Schultz is saying that CEOs should stop all campaign contributions to all politicians until the get their act together. They both miss the point.
The story here is not that these rich men are standing up for the little guys, but rather that these rich men hold all the power. Buffett is only saying what most people have been saying for years. But when he, Warren Buffett - a man with a net worth greater than the GDP of some (many?) countries - says it, suddenly it’s a good idea. Schultz’s proposition is just as disturbing. He recognizes that politicians cater to the interests of their campaign donors (who are more often than not “mega-rich” corporation or lobby groups) instead of the best interest of the American people but does nothing to challenge the arrangement. Instead, his proposed boycott reinforces the undemocratic system by keeping the lawmakers accountable to the CEOs.
A round of applause is travelling through social media networks, thanking these men, and others, for their “brilliant” plans. I’m not buying it. Now, if they came up with plans on how to address the economic inequality in the US, maybe I’ll listen.

Mission San Luis, Tallahassee. This historic site recounts the lives of the Apalachee who lived in this area of Florida, the Spanish conquerors and missionaries who destroyed their way of life, and the English conquerors who drove them off their land.

Super Perros, Tallahassee. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first. The restaurant is all by its lonesome in a shack looking building. But I was hungry and my friends had heard good things about it so I agreed! It was so good! The decor celebrated all things Colombian, the TVs were showing highlights from Copa America, and the wait staff - er, uh I mean the food! The food was yummy ;)
Florida Capitol Building, Tallahassee. Tell me why three university graduates didn’t realize that the 18th Governor of Florida was probably not alive anymore? Lol. Despite this we had a great time at Florida’s seat of government.
Jasmine Cafe, Tallahassee. I had sushi! This was a huge step for me since a) I’m not a big fan of seafood, b) I’m not a fan of raw food (though I have now learned that not all sushi is raw), and c) I’m allergic to soy. Nevertheless, the food was good (I had California rolls, Japanese rolls, and a spicy tuna cucumber thing), the decor was nice and the company was wonderful. :)
Railroad Square, Tallahassee. We had loads of fun at this super cute art district. There was a theatre in the railroad station and a really fabulous thrift store! I got a great dress and a pair of owl earrings there.
Florida State University. I took a walk while my friend was in class. The campus is gorgeous. The aesthetic is the same throughout giving the school a unified feel. Trees lined FSU’s Legacy Walk. The statue featured pays homage to three African-American students in FSU’s history: Doby Lee Flowers, first African-American Homecoming Princess (1970); Maxwell Courtney, first African-American undergrad student (1962 - 1965); Fred H. Flowers, first African-American to wear FSU athletic uniform
I had such a fantastic time in Tallahassee. It’s a quaint little town (that was the descriptor of the week) with plenty of hidden gems. I’ll be putting up pictures soon, of course, but some of my favorite moments went undocumented. Like bumming on the couch and watching bad TV with my besties. Or sightseeing in the rain armed with a too small umbrella, a too hot jacket, and a too thin poncho.
It’s strange. While we were together it was like we’d never been apart. As soon as we separate… well, I miss them already.
