Mission San Luis, Tallahassee. This historic site recounts the lives of the Apalachee who lived in this area of Florida, the Spanish conquerors and missionaries who destroyed their way of life, and the English conquerors who drove them off their land.

Florida Capitol Building, Tallahassee. Tell me why three university graduates didn’t realize that the 18th Governor of Florida was probably not alive anymore? Lol. Despite this we had a great time at Florida’s seat of government. 

Jasmine Cafe, Tallahassee. I had sushi! This was a huge step for me since a) I’m not a big fan of seafood, b) I’m not a fan of raw food (though I have now learned that not all sushi is raw), and c) I’m allergic to soy. Nevertheless, the food was good (I had California rolls, Japanese rolls, and a spicy tuna cucumber thing), the decor was nice and the company was wonderful. :)

Railroad Square, Tallahassee. We had loads of fun at this super cute art district. There was a theatre in the railroad station and a really fabulous thrift store! I got a great dress and a pair of owl earrings there. 

Florida State University. I took a walk while my friend was in class. The campus is gorgeous. The aesthetic is the same throughout giving the school a unified feel. Trees lined FSU’s Legacy Walk. The statue featured pays homage to three African-American students in FSU’s history: Doby Lee Flowers, first African-American Homecoming Princess (1970); Maxwell Courtney, first African-American undergrad student (1962 - 1965); Fred H. Flowers, first African-American to wear FSU athletic uniform

I had such a fantastic time in Tallahassee. It’s a quaint little town (that was the descriptor of the week) with plenty of hidden gems. I’ll be putting up pictures soon, of course, but some of my favorite moments went undocumented. Like bumming on the couch and watching bad TV with my besties. Or sightseeing in the rain armed with a too small umbrella, a too hot jacket, and a too thin poncho. 

It’s strange. While we were together it was like we’d never been apart. As soon as we separate… well, I miss them already.  

I’ve landed safe and sound in Tallahassee! Customs was a breeze (because I didn’t wear any jewelry, or a belt, or even bobby pins in my hair), the flights were quick, (I would literally doze off and then be woken up by the flight attendant saying, “prepare for landing.”) and the weather is hot. Yay, for vacations.

PS: Get it? Tallahassee.. Tally… Tally-ho? I’m so punny :P

Albert Gilles Copper Art Museum. This museum was so breathtaking. Every piece was handmade by a member of the Gilles family. The craftsmanship and detail was amazing, in the jewelry especially.
